Lama Temple(Palace of Harmony and Peace): located 1 km east of An Ding Men, originally was Emperor Yong Zheng’s ( the third emperor of Qing Dynasty, 1723-1736) mansion before his enthronement. Emperor Yong Zheng, divided his mansion into two parts : one half was his Xanadu and the other half was given to Lama Skya Xutuqtu as the Imperial Superior Yard after his enthronement in the third year. In the ninth year of Emperor Qian Long(1744), it was Lama Temple instead ( ie Tibetan Buddhism Temple), it is the biggest existent Lama Temple around Beijing. The magnificent temple consists of five main buildings lying on the north-south axis, with annex halls standing on both sides. The middle hall’s plane is a crisscross, copper made Lama-Zopa’s Statue was consecrated inside the hall, behind it 500 Arhats Hill is there. Wan Fu Cabinet is the biggest building inside the palace, the famous sandal Amitabha Buddha’s statue is here with a whole length of 26 meter’s high.(18 m above the ground, 8 m under the ground, carved by a whole sandal log)
